In the Spring of 1996, the Ontario Mountain Village Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was working with the City to redevelop decaying and blighted areas in North Ontario. We had a plan in place that was working.
The neighborhood village concept developed by planner Peter Calithorpe, and funded with our tax dollars, is being gutted in favor of a big-box superstore that is not friendly to schools, churches, and existing homes in the neighborhood, and is definitely not friendly to existing neighborhood businesses.

You may recall the "village like" plan extended from I-10 freeway on the north to 5th street on the south and included Ontario Plaza at 4th and Mountain and several adjacent areas as well.
We feel that we did not get a fair hearing by City Staff by their not requiring an updated environmental impact report, together with a current traffic study.
We are circulating a petition to let the City Council and Staff know we are vehemently opposed to the project.
